DirectOut PRODIGY Series

Driver Maturity

Production

Recommended for normal production use.

Caution

Compatibility Note: This information is a general guide and may be incomplete, may not match a specific project implementation, and is subject to change as supported products and versions evolve. Confirm the exact implementation and requirements for each project with Riedel and the relevant equipment vendor, then validate the required functions end to end in the target environment before deployment.

Minimum hi Version: v2.5.0

Overview

hi connects to the DirectOut® PRODIGY Ember+ provider. It exposes the published matrices, parameters, labels, and state for operational control.

Network Requirements

  • Connection Model: Outbound from hi

  • Multicast / Unicast: Unicast only

  • Firewall: Allow outbound TCP from hi to the PRODIGY Ember+ provider on Port 9000 by default.

  • Callback: No inbound callback to hi is used.

  • Security: Keep the plaintext control connection on a trusted management network.

Operator Workflow

  • UI Surface in hi: Inventory, Routing Matrix, Parameter Control, and Control Panels

  • Routing Semantics: hi exposes the matrix, labels, and parameters published by the PRODIGY Ember+ provider.

  • Vendor Tooling: Continue to use globcon for device engineering, firmware, and functions not published through Ember+.

Supported Features

Feature

Access

Exposed Operation and Scope

Matrix Discovery

Read-only

Discover the matrices and routing tree exposed by the PRODIGY Ember+ provider.

Label and State Readback

Read-only

Read available labels and operational state exposed by the device.

Crosspoint Routing

Read/write

Read and change only routing Crosspoints exposed by the PRODIGY Ember+ matrix.

Parameter Values

Per-parameter access

Read the exposed parameters, such as the microphone preamp settings, and write only the parameters that the provider marks writable.

Device Coverage

Tested With identifies devices that have been tested with hi. Potentially Compatible (Not Yet Verified) identifies compatibility candidates that use the same protocol or connection method. Device-specific configuration, firmware, and feature support can affect results.

Tested With

  • DirectOut PRODIGY Series

Potentially Compatible (Not Yet Verified)

  • DirectOut PRODIGY.MC and DirectOut PRODIGY.MP with the DirectOut Ember+ option, where they expose a compatible Ember+ parameter tree and writable matrix.

Known Limitations

  • Validate matrix exposure, labels, and writable parameters during commissioning.

  • The Ember+ interface covers configuration, microphone preamp settings, the routing matrix with channel labels, and status monitoring. Use globcon for other functions, such as the DSP section.

  • A connection interruption pauses subscribed updates until the integration reconnects and resynchronizes.

  • A demo session that globcon starts after device startup activates a licensed feature for only 30 minutes. Install a license file for permanent operation.

  • hi finds matrices automatically in the top three levels of the Ember+ tree. Matrices deeper in the tree do not appear in hi.

  • hi creates the Ports of a PRODIGY matrix as audio Ports when the matrix does not identify its signal type.

  • hi subscribes only to the parameters that are pinned on the Node. Other parameters in the tree do not update in hi.

  • hi sends an Ember+ keep-alive request every 5 seconds, and it disconnects when the provider does not answer within 10 seconds. hi requires the provider to answer keep-alive requests.

What's Not Supported

  • Device engineering, firmware updates, license activation, and functions not exposed by the Ember+ tree.

  • Ember+ Functions, including Qualified Functions, and function invocation. The Ember+ specification defines them from Glow 2.20, and hi never sends an Invoke command.

  • Ember+ Templates, including Qualified Templates, and template references. The specification defines them from Glow 2.40. hi requests all fields of each element, and it does not resolve template references.

  • The PRODIGY globcon JSON API. hi uses only the Ember+ provider.
