Production

Recommended for normal production use.

Caution

Compatibility Note: This information is a general guide and may be incomplete, may not match a specific project implementation, and is subject to change as supported products and versions evolve. Confirm the exact implementation and requirements for each project with Riedel and the relevant equipment vendor, then validate the required functions end to end in the target environment before deployment.

Minimum hi Version: v2.6.1

Caution

hi 2.7.8 fixes SDNO initialization errors that were caused by SDNO API changes. Use hi 2.7.8 or later with current SDNO releases.

Overview

The Imagine Communications® Magellan™ SDNO integration reads Source, Destination, level, and channel metadata through REST. It performs Crosspoint routing through LRC Plus.

Network Requirements

  • Allow outbound TCP from hi to the LRC Plus controller on Port 52117 by default.

  • Allow outbound HTTP from hi to the SDNO API on Port 80 by default.

  • No callback or inbound connection to hi is used.

  • Keep both plaintext control connections on a trusted management network.

Operator Workflow

  • UI Surface in hi: Routing Matrix, Inventory, and Hardware Panel workflows

  • Capabilities: SDNO Source/Destination metadata plus LRC Plus Crosspoint state and routing

  • Routing Semantics: SDNO supplies names and level/channel assignments; LRC Plus performs Source-to-Destination routing.

  • Notes for Operators Familiar with the Vendor's Own Tooling: Use vendor tooling for topology design, policy, engineering setup, and firmware management.

Supported Features

Feature

Connection

Access

Exposed Operation and Scope

Source and Destination Enumeration

LRC Plus

Read-only

LRC Plus enumerates Sources and Destinations. SDNO supplies display names and level types, and it hides ports whose SDNO status is Disconnect.

Level and Channel Metadata

SDNO REST API

Read-only

Read assigned routing levels and channels.

Crosspoint State

LRC Plus

Read-only

Read current routing state.

Crosspoint Set

LRC Plus

Write-only

Route a Source to a Destination.

Device Coverage

Tested With identifies devices that have been tested with hi. Potentially Compatible (Not Yet Verified) identifies compatibility candidates that use the same protocol or connection method. Device-specific configuration, firmware, and feature support can affect results.

Tested With

  • Imagine Communications Magellan SDNO

Potentially Compatible (Not Yet Verified)

  • Other Imagine Communications deployments that expose the supported LRC Plus and SDNO API surfaces.

Known Limitations

  • Validate both surfaces and the active database during commissioning.

  • If SDNO is configured but unreachable, the Node does not initialize.

  • The SDNO REST API is a read interface for the published database. Route takes use LRC Plus, so a missing Crosspoint state points to the LRC Plus connection and missing names or level types point to the REST connection. LRC Plus enumerates the Sources and Destinations.

  • hi does not authenticate to the SDNO REST API. Restrict access to the SDNO management network.

  • SDNO 2.9.8 and later serve the REST interface on Port 80. Earlier versions use Port 8935. If your SDNO uses a different Port, enter it as the SDNO REST Port.

  • SDNO serves LRC on Port 52116 and LRC Plus on Port 52117 by default. Each translation database uses its own router Port, and each Port carries one translation. A translation can rename Sources, Destinations, and levels and change their LRC IDs for the client that connects to its Port.

What's Not Supported

  • Flow creation or deletion.

  • Switch firmware updates and base IP/VLAN provisioning - perform from the controller's native UI.

  • Topology design and policy authoring. Configure them in SDNO; hi only routes Crosspoints through LRC Plus.
