Blackmagic Design HyperDeck Series Integration Configuration

Blackmagic Design HyperDeck Series Integration Configuration

Caution

Compatibility Note: This information is a general guide and may be incomplete, may not match a specific project implementation, and is subject to change as supported products and versions evolve. Confirm the exact implementation and requirements for each project with Riedel and the relevant equipment vendor, then validate the required functions end to end in the target environment before deployment.

Configuration Overview

A HyperDeck connects to hi as one video server Node over the HyperDeck Ethernet Protocol. hi takes remote control for its own connection, reads the clips of the active slot, and controls playback.

Configuration

What hi Sees

Use When

HyperDeck Playback

The clips and transport state of the active slot, with one input and one output Port by default.

hi must cue and play clips on a HyperDeck.

Caution

Cue and Play replace the timeline on the HyperDeck. Do not connect hi to a deck whose timeline is built on the deck for a running production.

Before You Begin

  • Use Node admin and open Inventory > Nodes. See Manage Nodes.

  • Confirm the license and minimum hi version in Required Configuration.

  • Obtain access to the network and security settings of the deck, using the Blackmagic Design tools for the model.

  • Confirm the network access in Network Requirements.

Configure HyperDeck Playback

Device Configuration

  1. Confirm that the HyperDeck has an IP address that the hi server reaches on TCP Port 9993. HyperDeck Studio models ship set to DHCP. To set a fixed address, open the front-panel Network Settings menu, set Protocol to Static IP, and enter the IP address, subnet mask, and gateway.

  2. In Blackmagic HyperDeck Setup, open the Network Access settings and confirm that HyperDeck Ethernet Protocol access is enabled without a username and password. Access is enabled by default. The Enabled with security option requires a username and password, and hi sends no credentials.

  3. Insert media with the clips that hi must play.

Remote control on the deck does not need to be enabled. hi overrides the remote-control state for its own connection, as the Ethernet Protocol allows.

hi Configuration

  1. Add the HyperDeck Series integration (manufacturer Blackmagic Design) in Inventory.

  2. Enter the device address and Port 9993.

  3. Keep Input Count and Output Count in the Port Settings group at 1 unless the topology needs more. These settings are available only when you create the Node.

  4. Create the Node and wait while hi reads the device information, the disk list, the clips, and the transport state.

Common Checks

Symptom

Check

The Node does not connect.

Confirm that Port 9993 is reachable and that the deck does not require authentication.

A new clip does not appear.

Wait up to 30 seconds. hi reads the disk list every 30 seconds.

A timeline built on the deck is gone.

Cue and Play from hi replace the timeline with the selected clip.

Stop returns to the first clip.

This is expected. Use Pause to hold the current position.

Verify the Configuration

Confirm that the clips and the active storage slot appear in hi. Cue a noncritical clip and confirm the clip and timecode on the HyperDeck. Test Play, Pause, and Stop, and confirm that each transport and slot change returns to hi.
