Calrec Hydra2 Integration Configuration

Calrec Hydra2 Integration Configuration

Caution

Compatibility Note: This information is a general guide and may be incomplete, may not match a specific project implementation, and is subject to change as supported products and versions evolve. Confirm the exact implementation and requirements for each project with Riedel and the relevant equipment vendor, then validate the required functions end to end in the target environment before deployment.

Configuration Overview

A Calrec Hydra2 network connects to hi as one audio router Node. The Calrec configuration decides which ports hi can route, so configure the Calrec side first and then create the Node in hi.

Configuration

What hi Sees

Use When

Hydra2 Audio Routing

One audio matrix of the Sources and Destinations that have an SW-P-08 mapping, plus the UNPATCHED and OUT OF RANGE Sources.

hi must route Hydra2 I/O box and Hydra Patchbay ports.

Caution

A port without an SW-P-08 mapping is not visible to hi. A Destination that is fed from a console desk output reports the OUT OF RANGE Source. Patch such signals to a Hydra Patchbay point that has a mapping.

Before You Begin

  • Use Node admin and open Inventory > Nodes. See Manage Nodes.

  • Confirm the license and minimum hi version in Required Configuration.

  • Use the Calrec configuration tool to edit the SW-P-08 mappings.

  • Confirm the network access in Network Requirements. hi defaults the SW-P-08 Port to 2008. Calrec documents TCP socket Port 61000 for the Hydra2.

Configure Hydra2 Audio Routing

Device Configuration

  1. Connect to the active Master Router of the Hydra2 network. A standalone console is its own Master. The SW-P-08 listener runs on the primary Master Router card.

  2. Open the SW-P-08 Mapping tab of each I/O box and each Hydra Patchbay. Assign a Matrix, Level, and ID to every port that hi controls. Use each ID once among the Sources and once among the Destinations. Select APPLY CHANGES before selecting another I/O box or leaving the page.

  3. On the Control Protocols page, assign IDs to the functions "Digital Silence (Unpatched)" and "Source Out of Range". Select APPLY CHANGES before leaving the page.

  4. Record the Matrix, the Level, the highest Source ID, the highest Destination ID, and the two function IDs.

  5. Connect the hi network to the control Ethernet port for the installed system:

    • For a rack-based Master Router core, use the front-panel RJ45 port labeled Ethernet on its main router card. By default, the SW-P-08 address is the router-card address: the third octet is 5 for the primary card and 6 for the secondary card, the fourth octet is 0, and the first two octets differ for each processing core.

    • For a standalone Brio 36, use rear-panel Ethernet port 1 or 2. Configure its address on System Settings > LAN Configuration.

  6. Record the SW-P-08 address and Port configured for the installed system. Calrec documents TCP Port 61000 for these Hydra2 and Brio 36 controllers.

hi Configuration

  1. Add the Calrec Hydra2 integration in Inventory.

  2. Enter the recorded SW-P-08 address and the control Port. hi defaults the Port to 2008; Calrec documents 61000. Change the Port to the one that the Hydra2 uses. This integration uses one connection.

  3. Set Signal Type to Audio, because the default is Video.

  4. Enter Level and Matrix. Calrec numbers both from 1, and hi numbers them from 0, so subtract 1.

  5. Enter Input Count and Output Count as at least the highest mapped Source and Destination IDs. hi numbers its Ports from 1 up to the count, so an ID above the count does not appear in hi. Keep both counts below the Unpatched and Out Of Range IDs.

  6. Enter the recorded function IDs in Unpatched and Out Of Range before you create the Node. hi creates the UNPATCHED and OUT OF RANGE Sources only when it creates the Node.

  7. Create the Node.

Common Checks

Symptom

Check

A port is missing in hi.

Confirm that the port has an SW-P-08 mapping and that its ID is unique within its direction.

Routes land on the wrong port.

Confirm that Level and Matrix are zero based in hi.

A Destination shows OUT OF RANGE.

The Destination is fed from a desk output, or Out Of Range does not match the Calrec ID.

Verify the Configuration

Wait for the Node to report a connected state. Compare the Source and Destination labels with the Calrec configuration. Route a noncritical Destination from hi and confirm that the Crosspoint returns to hi.
