Safety Instructions
Overview
These instructions apply to hiPush, hiDot, and hiContact Hardware Panels. Product-specific specifications and the approved project procedure take precedence.
Warning
The hi system and its Hardware Panels are not safety-rated controls. Do not use them for life-preserving functions, emergency shutdowns, safety interlocks, or other functions where failure could cause injury, loss of life, or significant environmental or industrial damage.
Installation and Power
-
Inspect the device, power equipment, and cables before installation. Do not operate visibly damaged equipment.
-
Use only the power method stated on the model page: IEEE 802.3af PoE, the specified external power supply, or either method. See Hardware Installation and Commissioning.
-
Keep power and network connections accessible during installation and service.
-
Do not open or modify a Hardware Panel. Contact Riedel Customer Success through Customer Support when service is required.
Operating Environment
-
Operate the Hardware Panel only within its published environmental limits.
-
Keep liquids and excessive dust away from the device and its connectors.
-
Allow the device to reach the installation environment temperature before applying power after transport or storage.
-
Install cables so they cannot be pulled, crushed, or create a trip hazard.
Published hi Hardware Panel specifications state an operating temperature range of 10 °C to +35 °C. Storage limits vary by model. Review the applicable model page before installation.
Operational Safety
-
Do not use hiContact relay outputs as a safety interlock.
-
Do not treat a hiPush or hiDot control as a safety function.
-
Do not perform disruptive system, Backup, restore, or power operations during a live production.
-
Keep commissioning interfaces and control-plane services on the approved production or management network.
Disposal
Dispose of hi Hardware Panels and packaging according to applicable local requirements. Electrical and electronic equipment must not be disposed of with household waste.
