Hardware Installation and Commissioning

Hardware Installation and Commissioning

Use this guide to install and commission hiPush, hiDot, and hiContact hardware across the Mark 1, Mark 2, and Mark 3 generations. Always use the individual model page for its exact mounting dimensions, power source, connectors, and electrical limits. The guides complement the Hardware User Manual.

Installation

Warning

Never connect mains AC directly to a hiPush panel. Externally powered hiPush panels use a 12 V DC input. The 100 to 240 V AC rating applies to the separate power supply's input.

  1. Identify the exact model and mark from its product label. Check that model's page for dimensions, mounting format, network connector, and permitted power source.

  2. Install rack-mounted panels in the rack space or approved mounting frame shown on the model page. Place desktop panels on a stable, level surface where the controls and cables remain accessible.

  3. Connect the model's specified Ethernet connection. Use PoE only when the individual model page lists PoE as a supported power source; otherwise connect the specified external power supply.

  4. Keep the equipment indoors and dry. Check the individual model page for its documented protection rating and environmental limits; do not assume an IP rating across the hardware range.

For PoE-powered models, follow the power instructions on the individual model page.

Commissioning

Caution

The hiContact Mark 1 uses plug-and-play commissioning at 192.168.1.100. Contact Riedel Customer Success to change its address. Do not apply the network configuration procedure for later panels to it.

  1. Complete the physical installation and connect power and Ethernet as specified for the exact model.

  2. Allow the panel to finish its startup sequence. Where the model displays its network address, record the address shown on the unit.

  3. For models other than hiContact Mark 1, configure the network address and hi server connection using Hardware Network Configuration.

  4. Add the panel to the hi installation as described by the network configuration guide. Confirm that the expected model and controls are available before using the panel in operation.

  5. For hiContact models, verify input and relay wiring using a safe DC test circuit within the limits on that model's page. Do not connect AC or mains voltage.

Caution

If startup, network access, or control behavior differs from the model's page, stop and check its power and network connections before continuing.

IP Address Configuration

Every panel ships with a known default network configuration so that it can be reached on a freshly cabled installation and reconfigured for the target network. The factory defaults and the step-by-step configuration procedure are documented in Hardware Network Configuration.

Caution

Panels with the same factory IP address must not be connected together on the configuration network. Follow the one-panel-at-a-time procedure in Hardware Network Configuration. For hiContact Mark 1, contact Riedel Customer Success for address changes.

Dimensions

Per-product dimensions are documented on each panel's individual page in Hardware User Manual:

Power Connector Pinout

For hiPush panels, the WAGO 713 Series 6-pin connector has three numbered electrical positions. Position 1 is Housing on all generations. Positions 2 and 3 are Negative supply voltage (GND) and Positive supply voltage (+12 V DC). Each numbered position has two physical pins, upper and lower, connected internally.

Warning

Use the pinout SVG on the exact model page before wiring: hiPush Mark 1, hiPush Mark 2, or hiPush Mark 3.

Disposal

Electrical and Electronic Equipment

Electrical and electronic equipment must not be disposed of with household waste. This applies to all hi hardware, regardless of whether the unit carries the WEEE symbol.

Electrical and electronic equipment contains materials and substances that can be harmful to the environment and human health. Equipment must be disposed of properly after use. WEEE 2012/19/EU applies throughout Europe; national directives and laws may vary.

Steps for environmentally friendly disposal:

  • Observe national and local regulations for the disposal of electrical and electronic equipment.

  • Clear any data stored on the device.

  • Remove any added battery or memory card.

  • Send the equipment to a local collection point.

Warning

Improper disposal of electrical and electronic equipment can be harmful to the environment and to human health.

Packaging

Packaging contains materials that can be reused. Follow the applicable national and local requirements for packaging disposal and recycling.

For current EU requirements, see the European Commission's packaging waste guidance.

  • Observe national and local regulations for the disposal of packaging.

  • Dispose of packaging in a way that allows a high level of recovery, reuse, and recycling.

Warning

Improper disposal of packaging can be harmful to the environment and wastes valuable resources.
