SimplyLive AWS Access Control & Connectivity

In terms of connection methodology for managing instances, there are various possibilities, which we categorize into operational access and administrative access.

Operational Access

Operational access refers to users operating production clients such as “Vibox Production” or “Vibox Slomo,” which require low latency display of multiple video signals. For this type of access, it is crucial to use remote desktop solutions that can handle high-performance video streaming with minimal latency.

SimplyLive recommends using NiceDCV for operational access due to their superior performance in handling video signals.

  • Low Latency: NiceDCV is preferred for its low-latency QUIC UDP-based mode, which ensures smooth and real-time video streaming.

  • USB-Device Bridging: Excellent USB-device bridging capabilities allow for seamless integration of peripherals such as Shuttle Xpress and RCU (using RJ45 to USB adapter)

  • Bandwidth Efficiency: On average, a NiceDCV client configured for a display at 50 fps consumes no more than 25 Mbit/sec of bandwidth.

The NiceDCV server needs to be installed on the cloud instance, while the NiceDCV client is installed on the remote computer. During manual installation, ensure to select USB Driver and/or USB Automation in the advanced component selection of their respective InstallShield.

Administrative Access

Administrative access involves users performing configuration, monitoring, or using applications that do not require video signal usage, such as Vibox Web Configuration, Backend Debug Screen, and XPort. This type of access can use standard remote desktop solutions that are less demanding in terms of video performance.

For administrative access, the following products are suitable and efficient:

  • Microsoft Remote Desktop: Provides reliable and secure remote access, widely used for administrative tasks.

  • TeamViewer: Known for its ease of use, cross-platform support, and robust features for remote control and support. It is Riedel preferred way to provide remote support.

  • AnyDesk: Offers high performance with low latency, suitable for various administrative operations.

  • VNC (Virtual Network Computing): Simple and effective for remote access, offering cross-platform compatibility.

Bandwidth Efficiency

Administrative remote access typically consumes no more than 5 Mbit/sec of bandwidth, making it suitable for less bandwidth-intensive tasks.

Important remarks related to Microsoft Remote Desktop use on Backend

Always select “Play on remote computer” in Remote Audio Playback advanced setting on any RDP connection.  It will prevent any issue of virtual MIDI driver port used for advanced audio workflow.

Connection broker

A connection broker platform such as LeoStream that acts as an intermediary layer that securely connects end-users to their resources, regardless of whether those resources are hosted on premises, in a private cloud, or in a public cloud environment like AWS.
