Blackmagic Design ATEM Series
Production
Recommended for normal production use.

Compatibility Note: This information is a general guide and may be incomplete, may not match a specific project implementation, and is subject to change as supported products and versions evolve. Confirm the exact implementation and requirements for each project with Riedel and the relevant equipment vendor, then validate the required functions end to end in the target environment before deployment.
Minimum hi Version: v2.4.0
Overview
The Blackmagic Design® ATEM™ integration reads Tally and switcher topology and sends dynamic Source labels. hi does not expose bus selection, AUX routing, or macro execution.
Network Requirements
-
Connection Model: Outbound UDP session from hi
-
Bandwidth: Control traffic only.
-
IP Version: IPv4 (IPv6 support varies by vendor - verify before relying on it)
-
Firewall: Allow UDP traffic between hi and the switcher on port 9910. When the gRPC label destination is configured, also allow outbound HTTP/2 gRPC from hi to its URI. The switcher does not open connections to hi.

Operator Workflow
-
UI Surface in hi: Tally and Dynamic Labels
-
Capabilities: Tally, dynamic Source labels, and topology readback
-
Routing Semantics: The integration does not expose a general Routing Matrix surface in the hi web interface.
-
Tally / UMD Relationship: Tally state is sourced from the switcher's own Tally engine; hi reflects the switcher's Tally state into the wider system.
-
Notes for Operators Familiar with the Vendor's Own Tooling: Use the vendor tooling for switcher engineering, macro authoring, and production setup. hi reads Tally and topology and writes Source labels.

Connection: Dynamic Label Service
hi writes Source labels to the switcher over the native session, with a 4-character short name and a 20-character long name. An HTTP/2 gRPC URI is an optional, additional label destination.
hi keeps the first 20 characters of the long name. hi shortens the label for the short name; when the result is longer than 4 ASCII characters, hi keeps its first two and last two characters.

Known Limitations
-
hi writes Source labels over the native session. The HTTP/2 gRPC URI is an optional, additional label destination, and it has no default port. For more information, contact Riedel Customer Success.
-
hi reads Program and Preview Tally for up to four MEs. For ME 1, hi uses the switcher's Tally-by-Source data. For ME 2 to ME 4, hi uses the Source selected on the Program and Preview buses. hi names each Tally after the ME Program or Preview name that the switcher reports.
What's Not Supported
-
Multiviewer layout and window configuration. The ATEM Multiviewer shows the long Source name that hi writes; hi does not change other Multiviewer settings.
-
Macro and shotbox authoring, ME setup, panel calibration, and engineering configuration.
-
Firmware updates and device configuration backup.
-
Program and Preview bus selection, AUX routing, and macro execution. The ATEM protocol provides them, and hi does not expose them.
-
Writing input properties other than the short and long Source names.
-
Keyer, transition, SuperSource, audio mixer, media pool, camera control, streaming, and recording control. The ATEM Switcher SDK provides them, and hi does not implement them.
