Generic TSL-Compatible Multiviewer Integration Configuration

Generic TSL-Compatible Multiviewer Integration Configuration

Caution

Compatibility Note: This information is a general guide and may be incomplete, may not match a specific project implementation, and is subject to change as supported products and versions evolve. Confirm the exact implementation and requirements for each project with Riedel and the relevant equipment vendor, then validate the required functions end to end in the target environment before deployment.

Configuration Overview

hi sends UMD labels and Tally states to the Multiviewer. The Multiviewer must accept the same TSL version, transport, address, and display identifiers that you configure in hi.

Configuration

What hi Sees

Use When

TSL Multiviewer

A Multiviewer Node with a UMD Settings tab.

The Multiviewer receives TSL UMD data from hi.

Caution

Receivers differ in how they handle TSL messages. Settings such as Multi-Display Packets, Message Delay, and Skip DLE/STX depend on the receiver. Change them only when the Multiviewer needs it, and confirm the setting with the Multiviewer vendor.

Before You Begin

  • Use Node admin and open Inventory > Nodes. See Manage Nodes.

  • Confirm the license and minimum hi version in Required Configuration.

  • Confirm the network access in Network Requirements.

  • Know the screen and display identifiers that the Multiviewer uses for each window. Use the vendor tool or manual of the Multiviewer to find them.

Configure TSL Multiviewer

Use this configuration to send labels and Tally from hi to a TSL receiver.

Device Configuration

  1. Enable the TSL input on the Multiviewer, using the vendor documentation of the device. Select TSL 3.1 or TSL 5 over TCP or UDP.

  2. Set the port of the TSL input. hi defaults to 8901. Record the IP address and the port of the TSL input.

  3. Record the screen and display identifiers that the Multiviewer assigns to each window.

hi Configuration

  1. Create the Node from the TSL Based Multiviewer integration in Inventory.

  2. Enter the IP address and the port of the Multiviewer.

  3. Set Screen ID and Starting Display ID to match the Multiviewer. Give each Multiviewer Node a different Screen ID, or a Starting Display ID range that does not overlap another Node on the same screen. hi assigns one display identifier for each input, starting at Starting Display ID.

  4. Open the UMD Settings tab. In the UMD receiver settings, select the TSL Protocol (TSL 3.1 or TSL 5) and the Transport Type (TCP or UDP) that the Multiviewer receives.

  5. Configure the UMD entries. See Configure UMD Labels.

  6. Optional: on the General tab, adjust Multi-Display Packets, Message Delay, Skip DLE/STX, and the rotation settings. See Multiviewer Nodes for the meaning of each setting. If the Multiviewer receives no TSL 5 data over UDP, turn off Multi-Display Packets and turn on Skip DLE/STX. hi applies Skip DLE/STX only to single-display TSL 5 messages over UDP; it omits the DLE/STX packet start when the setting is on.

Common Checks

Symptom

Check

The wrong window updates.

Confirm Screen ID and Starting Display ID on both systems.

The Multiviewer shows no labels after a restart.

Select Re-Send all UMDs on the General tab, or turn on Enable Rotation.

The Multiviewer receives no data using TSL 5 over UDP.

Turn off Multi-Display Packets and turn on Skip DLE/STX. Skip DLE/STX has no effect with other protocols or transports, or while Multi-Display Packets is on.

The Multiviewer does not accept label updates sent together.

Turn off Multi-Display Packets if the Multiviewer does not support these TSL messages.

The Multiviewer cannot process the message stream.

Set Message Delay to slow the stream. A delay also slows updates.

Verify the Configuration

Change a test label and a Tally state in hi. Confirm that the matching window of the Multiviewer shows the label and the Tally state, and that the UMD Settings tab shows the expected live text.
