This page describes the hiContact (Mark 3) GPIO device and its specifications.
hiContact (Mark 3)
Mark 3
At a glance: 1/3-width 19" 1RU GPIO box with 16 opto-isolated inputs sharing a common ground and 16 relay contact outputs. Front display for GPIO status. PoE or external PSU. Up to three units fit in a single 1RU 19" hiContactMount rackmount frame.
hiContact is the GPIO interface for the hi system. Its inputs sense external contact closures, such as buttons, sensors, and machine triggers. Its relay contacts switch external circuits for uses such as Tally lights, on-air indicators, and equipment control.

Warning
Do not connect any AC voltage, including mains voltage, to a hiContact input or relay contact output. Input signals must be DC and below 20 V DC relative to the shared input ground. Relay contacts switch an externally supplied DC circuit only; do not exceed 30 V DC or 1 A. The relay contacts do not provide a voltage source.

Warning
Use only with the official hiPSU when using an external power supply.
Inputs: Opto-isolation separates the input circuits from hiContact's internal electronics, but the inputs are not isolated from one another. All 16 share a common ground, and the input voltage thresholds below are referenced to it.
Outputs: The 30 V DC maximum switching voltage and 1 A maximum switching current apply to the relay contacts, not the inputs. Relay contacts do not provide voltage. Use an external supply for the switched circuit and do not exceed either maximum.
Power
The hiContact accepts power either over PoE (IEEE 802.3af, Class 0, up to 12.95 W) or from the external hiPSU through a WAGO 713 Series 6-pin connector. PoE is the simpler installation; an external PSU is needed only where PoE is not available on the network switch.
