Recommended for normal production use.

Caution

Compatibility Note: This information is a general guide and may be incomplete, may not match a specific project implementation, and is subject to change as supported products and versions evolve. Confirm the exact implementation and requirements for each project with Riedel and the relevant equipment vendor, then validate the required functions end to end in the target environment before deployment.

This integration supports workflow protocol generations V1 and V2.

Minimum hi Version: v2.7.4

Overview

Riedel hiDot™ has its own API and WebSocket connection and a dedicated hiDot editor in the hi web interface. It uses dedicated editing workflows rather than the generic Hardware Panel layout, delegation, or simulator workflows.

Information

hiDot Hardware Information in Hardware. Use the current Riedel product datasheet as the authoritative source for physical, electrical, and ordering specifications.

Network Requirements

  • Connection Model: hi initiates the connection; communication is bidirectional after connection.

  • Multicast / Unicast: Unicast only.

  • Bandwidth: Control data only.

  • IP Version: IPv4.

  • Firewall: Allow the hi system to connect to the hiDot on TCP Port 5015.

Notes

hiDot protocol

Workflow protocol generations V1 and V2

Proprietary Riedel protocol.

Operator Workflow

Inventory > Nodes provides a dedicated hiDot editor. Operators can select workflow or custom mode, organize menu content, assign quick-access items, select icons and colors, and reinitialize the device.

Workflow mode supports nested folders and Presets containing Parameters, Snapshots, Triggers, and routing entries with one Destination. Routing entries can route or disconnect a Destination and can select signals from Port Containers. Custom mode provides direct Parameter Control workflows.

replace during commissioning

hi workflow mode version

Device workflow mode, in the Options group. It is set when the Node is created and cannot be changed afterward. Recreate the Node to change it. The setting appears only on systems licensed for the earlier V1 workflow mode; otherwise hi creates the Node in V2 workflow mode.

V2

Device-Side Setup

Follow Riedel hiDot Series Integration Configuration for the device-side and hi-side configuration steps.

Supported Features

Feature

Access

Exposed Operation and Scope

Hierarchical Menus

hi-side configuration

Organize folders, Presets, and quick-access items for the panel UI.

Parameters

Per-parameter access

Display values and write only Parameters whose hi access mode permits writing.

Snapshots and Triggers

Write-only actions

Recall configured Snapshots and execute configured triggers.

Routing

Read/write actions

Route or disconnect one Destination, including Port Container selection.

Presentation

hi-side configuration and write-only panel output

Configure labels, icons, colors, screen content, and the RGB ring.

Custom Mode

Per-parameter access

Use the dedicated parameter-control workflow; actual writes remain subject to each Parameter's access mode.

Custom Mode Parameters

Per-parameter access

Read Encoder Value and Button State. Write Encoder Min, Encoder Max, Text Value (16 characters at most), Text Color, Font Size (10 to 100), and Screen Color.

Known Limitations

  • hiDot content is configured in the dedicated hiDot editor, not in generic Hardware Panel layouts.

  • Custom mode does not expose the RGB ring as a Parameter.

  • After the Node is created, the Operations group provides Reinitialize, which disconnects all connections to the hiDot and restarts initialization, and Reset, which restarts the hi services that communicate with the hiDot.

What's Not Supported

  • Firmware updates, physical commissioning, and hardware diagnostics are outside this integration.

  • Standalone offline operation is outside the hiDot workflow.
