Caution

Compatibility Note: This information is a general guide and may be incomplete, may not match a specific project implementation, and is subject to change as supported products and versions evolve. Confirm the exact implementation and requirements for each project with Riedel and the relevant equipment vendor, then validate the required functions end to end in the target environment before deployment.

Minimum hi Version: v1.2.1

Overview

hi connects to a Grass Valley® RollCall™ gateway and maps the devices exposed behind it. The integration opens parameter menus, reads and writes values, and subscribes to changes.

Network Requirements

  • Connection Model: hi initiates a persistent TCP connection to the RollCall gateway.

  • Multicast / Unicast: Unicast only.

  • VLAN / IGMP: No multicast configuration is required.

  • Bandwidth: Control traffic only.

  • IP Version: IPv4.

  • Firewall: Permit outbound TCP from hi to the RollCall gateway, Port 2051 by default.

Operator Workflow

  • UI Surface in hi: Inventory, Topology, and Parameter Control

  • Resources Controlled: Menu-capable devices and parameters published through the configured gateway

  • Device Administration: Use RollCall tooling for gateway setup, device provisioning, and firmware.

Parameters

Per-parameter access

Read parameters and write those whose RollCall menu/function metadata permits writes. Display-only and level-meter entries are read-only.

Parameter-change Notifications

Read-only subscription updates

Subscribe to supported updates and receive parameter-change notifications.

Gateway Discovery

Read-only

Discover and map compatible devices published by the RollCall gateway.

Device Coverage

Tested With identifies devices that have been tested with hi. Potentially Compatible (Not Yet Verified) identifies devices that use the same protocol or connection method but have not been tested with hi. Device-specific configuration, firmware, and feature support can affect results.

Tested With

  • Grass Valley Sirius Series

  • Grass Valley KudosPro

  • Grass Valley IQ Modular

  • Grass Valley Vega Series

Potentially Compatible (Not Yet Verified)

  • Other Grass Valley products that expose the supported RollCall parameter and label surfaces.

Known Limitations

  • Compatibility depends on the RollCall implementation exposed by the connected device.

  • hi sends a keep-alive when no other packet has been sent for 5 seconds. It opens sessions to devices behind the gateway in groups of 20 and re-subscribes to parameter changes every 12 hours.

  • hi maps only the devices behind the gateway that support both RollCall menus and control. Other devices do not appear in hi.

  • RollCall text fields are 20 bytes long, including the terminating byte. hi sends at most 19 characters of a text value.

  • When the TCP connection drops, hi reconnects automatically and opens the device sessions again.

What's Not Supported

  • Firmware updates, gateway administration, and base hardware provisioning.

  • RollCall logging data and LogServer, RollMap, and RollLog connections.
