Grass Valley RollCall Parameter Controllable Device Integration Configuration

Grass Valley RollCall Parameter Controllable Device Integration Configuration

Caution

Compatibility Note: This information is a general guide and may be incomplete, may not match a specific project implementation, and is subject to change as supported products and versions evolve. Confirm the exact implementation and requirements for each project with Riedel and the relevant equipment vendor, then validate the required functions end to end in the target environment before deployment.

Configuration Overview

A RollCall gateway connects to hi as one Parameter Control Node. hi maps the devices that the gateway publishes and opens a session to each device that supports RollCall menus and control. The gateway Port decides how far the map reaches.

Configuration

What hi Sees

Use When

Local Gateway

The gateway and the modules in its chassis.

The required devices are in the gateway chassis. This is the hi default Port 2051.

RollNet Network

The local devices and the devices that the gateway reaches through RollNet.

hi must also control devices on RollNet. Set the Port to 2050.

Caution

RollCall has no authentication. By default, any client that reaches the gateway Port can change parameters, unless a RollCall IP Proxy access list restricts it. Keep the gateway on a control network.

Before You Begin

Configure Local Gateway

Use this configuration when the required devices are in the gateway chassis.

Device Configuration

  1. Configure the RollCall gateway and confirm that it maps the required modules.

  2. When hi connects through RollCall IP Proxy, add the hi server address to the proxy access list in Setup > Access List.

hi Configuration

  1. Add the RollCall Parameter Controllable Device integration, manufacturer Grass Valley, in Inventory.

  2. Enter the gateway address. Keep the Port at 2051. This template has no further settings.

  3. Create the Node. hi maps the gateway and opens sessions to the devices in groups of 20.

  4. In the Parameter Browser, open a device menu, select the parameters that hi must monitor, and select Pin Selected.

Configure RollNet Network

Use this configuration when hi must also control devices that the gateway reaches through RollNet.

Device Configuration

  1. Configure the RollCall gateway and confirm that it maps the required devices on RollNet.

  2. When hi connects through RollCall IP Proxy, add the hi server address to the proxy access list in Setup > Access List.

hi Configuration

  1. Add the RollCall Parameter Controllable Device integration, manufacturer Grass Valley, in Inventory.

  2. Enter the gateway address and replace the Port with 2050.

  3. Create the Node. hi maps the network and opens sessions to the devices in groups of 20. A large network takes longer to load.

  4. In the Parameter Browser, open a device menu, select the parameters that hi must monitor, and select Pin Selected.

Common Checks

Symptom

Check

Devices on RollNet are missing.

Confirm that the Port is 2050. For IQ chassis, Port 2051 shows only the local chassis. RollCall IP Proxy and RollNet IP Share use Port 2050 by default. When both run on the same PC, RollNet IP Share uses Port 2057.

A device is missing.

Confirm that the device supports RollCall menus and control. hi maps only such devices.

The Node does not connect through RollCall IP Proxy.

Confirm that the hi server address is on the proxy access list.

Verify the Configuration

Confirm that the Node reports a connected state and that the Parameter Browser lists the expected devices and menus. Pin a known parameter, change it on the device, and confirm that hi shows the new value. Then change a safe parameter from hi and confirm that the device shows the same value.
