FOR-A HVS Series Integration Configuration

FOR-A HVS Series Integration Configuration

Caution

Compatibility Note: This information is a general guide and may be incomplete, may not match a specific project implementation, and is subject to change as supported products and versions evolve. Confirm the exact implementation and requirements for each project with Riedel and the relevant equipment vendor, then validate the required functions end to end in the target environment before deployment.

Configuration Overview

The HVS sends Tally and Source names to hi as TSL UMD 5.0 data, and hi listens for it. Optionally, hi sends Source names back to the TSL receiver of the HVS. These steps use the HVS-2000 menus. Other HVS models can differ.

Configuration

What hi Sees

Use When

Receive Tally

The HVS inputs, AUX buses, and M/E outputs as input Ports, named from their TSL text, and the six TSL 5 tally bits, which you map to hi Tallies.

hi must show the on-air state of HVS Sources.

Send Dynamic Labels

hi sends Source names to the TSL IN receiver of the HVS.

The HVS must show Source names from hi.

Caution

The HVS-2000 uses TSL UMD 5.0. hi defaults to TSL 3.1, so set Tally Protocol and Label Protocol to TSL5. Configure Receive Tally first, because hi creates the Ports that Dynamic Labels use from the received TSL data.

Before You Begin

  • Use Node admin and open Inventory > Nodes. See Manage Nodes.

  • Confirm the license and minimum hi version in Required Configuration.

  • Open the TSL IN and TSL OUT settings of the HVS-2000 in its GUI. The TSL settings use the LAN2 (SUB) port. See the HVS-2000GUI operation manual for the menu.

  • Choose an incoming port in the range 31000 to 31999, and give each Node its own port.

  • Use TSL v5.0 on the HVS-2000, and choose the transport, TCP or UDP, that the switcher uses.

  • Record the hi server address that the HVS sends TSL to.

  • When the HVS must show Source names from hi, record its LAN2(SUB) IP ADDRESS and LAN2(SUB) PORT.

  • Confirm the network access in Network Requirements.

Configure Receive Tally

Use this configuration to receive Tally and Source names from the HVS.

Device Configuration

  1. Open one of TSL OUT1, TSL OUT2, or TSL OUT3. The HVS-2000 provides three output targets.

  2. Enter the IP address of the hi server in TARGET IP ADDRESS and the incoming port of the Node in TARGET PORT. In a redundant installation, enter the virtual IP address of the hi system.

  3. Set DISPLAY ID OFFSET to the start position that hi must receive. Without an offset, inputs 1 to 48 use Display IDs 0 to 47, AUX 1 to 18 use 50 to 67, and the M/E program and outputs use 70 to 93.

  4. Select the 4-letter short name or the 8-letter long name in NAME TYPE. Set DLE OPTION and SCREEN NO to match hi.

  5. Select the Tally to send in RED TALLY and GREEN TALLY.

  6. Set ENABLE to on.

Confirm with FOR-A whether the TSL output uses TCP or UDP.

hi Configuration

  1. Add the HVS Series integration (manufacturer FOR-A) in Inventory.

  2. Enter the incoming port of the Node.

  3. In TSL Settings, set Tally Protocol to TSL5 and Tally Transport to the transport of the HVS. The defaults are TSL31 and UDP.

  4. Keep TSL Address Offset in TSL Settings at 1 so that Display ID 0 becomes Port 1. Change it only when the Port numbers must start elsewhere.

  5. Create the Node and wait for it to initialize. hi creates the input Ports from the received TSL data, so Input Count and Output Count can stay at their default of 0.

  6. Open the Tallies tab and map the entries that the HVS sets to hi Tallies. hi lists TSL 5 Tally as TSL5 Bit 0 - RH Red, TSL5 Bit 1 - RH Green, TSL5 Bit 2 - Text Red, TSL5 Bit 3 - Text Green, TSL5 Bit 4 - LH Red, and TSL5 Bit 5 - LH Green. Confirm in a test system which TSL 5 bits carry RED TALLY and GREEN TALLY.

The TSL Settings fields are available when you create the Node and later on the Node.

Configure Send Dynamic Labels

Use this configuration to send Source names from hi to the HVS.

Device Configuration

  1. Open TSL IN and set ENABLE to on.

  2. Record the values in LAN2(SUB) IP ADDRESS and LAN2(SUB) PORT.

  3. Set SCREEN NO to 0, which matches the screen that hi sends.

  4. Set DISPLAY ID OFFSET to the same start position as in TSL OUT.

  5. Set NAME TYPE to SHORT, LONG, or BOTH. NONE ignores the received names.

  6. hi sends each label with the DLE/STX packet start. Set DLE OPTION to on so that the HVS reads the DLE/STX packet start.

hi Configuration

  1. Open the Node and turn on the Dynamic Labels capability. It is off by default.

  2. Enter the LAN2(SUB) IP ADDRESS and LAN2(SUB) PORT of the HVS. hi pre-fills 8901, so replace it with the port that the HVS shows.

  3. In Dynamic Label Settings, set Label Protocol to TSL5 and Label Transport to the transport of the HVS receiver. The defaults are TSL31 and UDP.

  4. Keep TSL Address Offset in Dynamic Label Settings at 1, so that Port 1 becomes Display ID 0.

  5. Save the Node.

  6. Open the Dynamic Labels tab, select the entries, and select Activate. By default, hi sends no labels. See Dynamic Label Setup.

Common Checks

Symptom

Check

hi receives no TSL data.

Confirm that ENABLE is on for the TSL OUT target, that TARGET IP ADDRESS and TARGET PORT point to the hi server and the Node, and that Tally Protocol is TSL5 with the same transport.

hi receives no TSL data over TCP.

Over TCP, hi accepts only packets that start with DLE/STX. Set DLE OPTION to on for the TSL OUT target. The default is off.

Port numbers do not match the HVS inputs.

Confirm DISPLAY ID OFFSET on the HVS and TSL Address Offset in TSL Settings.

Two Nodes behave as one, or one Node receives nothing.

Give each Node its own incoming port.

Labels do not appear on the HVS.

Confirm that TSL IN is enabled, that NAME TYPE is not NONE, that SCREEN NO is 0, that the Dynamic Labels address, port, version, and transport match, and that the entries are active on the Dynamic Labels tab.

Verify the Configuration

Take an input to program on the HVS and record which hi Port changes Tally. TSL OUT sends input Source names together with Tally for the AUX and M/E outputs, so Tally arrives on the output Display IDs 50 to 93 and not on the input Display IDs 0 to 47. Compare the Port names in hi with the UMD names that the HVS sends. When Dynamic Labels are configured, change the name of a Source in hi and confirm that the name of the matching HVS input updates.
