Generic TSL-Compatible Switcher Integration Configuration

Generic TSL-Compatible Switcher Integration Configuration

Caution

Compatibility Note: This information is a general guide and may be incomplete, may not match a specific project implementation, and is subject to change as supported products and versions evolve. Confirm the exact implementation and requirements for each project with Riedel and the relevant equipment vendor, then validate the required functions end to end in the target environment before deployment.

Configuration Overview

hi receives Tally from a control system or switcher that sends TSL UMD data, and can send Dynamic Labels back to it. Configure the sending system and hi with the same TSL version and transport.

Configuration

What hi Sees

Use When

Receive Tally

The sending system sources as input Ports, and the TSL tally bits, which you map to hi Tallies.

The sending system provides Tally.

Send Dynamic Labels

hi sends Source names to a TSL receiver on the sending system.

The sending system displays labels from hi.

Caution

Some control systems send TSL data that hi accepts only as TSL v3.1. The Lawo VSM, for example, sends TSL that is compatible only with TSL v3.1. Select the same TSL version in the sending system and in hi.

Before You Begin

  • Use Node admin and open Inventory > Nodes. See Manage Nodes.

  • Confirm the license in Required Configuration.

  • Choose an incoming port in the range 31000 to 31999 and give each Node its own port.

  • Choose TSL v3.1 or v5.0, and TCP or UDP, to match the sending system.

  • Record the hi server address that the sending system sends TSL to.

  • When the sending system must show labels from hi, record the address and port of its TSL receiver, 8901 by default.

  • Confirm the network access in Network Requirements.

Configure Receive Tally

Use this configuration to receive Tally from the sending system.

Device Configuration

This example uses a Lawo VSM. Other systems differ.

  1. In the sending system, add a communication port that uses TSL v3.1.

  2. Enter the IP address of the hi server and the incoming port of the Node. In a redundant installation, enter the virtual IP address of the hi system.

  3. Select TCP - Outbound or UDP - Outbound as the type, and finish the port.

  4. Assign the Source labels that hi should receive to the outbound port, using the label assignment of the sending system.

hi Configuration

  1. Add the TSL Compatible Switcher integration (manufacturer Generic) in Inventory.

  2. Enter the incoming port. In TSL Settings, set Tally Protocol to TSL31 or TSL5 and Tally Transport to TCP or UDP to match the sending system. The defaults are TSL31 and UDP. For the Lawo VSM, select TSL31.

  3. Create the Node and wait for it to initialize.

  4. Open the Tallies tab and map each switcher tally, for example TSL3 Bit 0 - Tally 1 or TSL5 Bit 2 - Text Red, to a hi Tally. The received sources appear as the input Ports of the Node.

  5. Verify TSL Address Offset in TSL Settings. It defaults to 1, so incoming address 0 becomes Port 1. Adjust it when the sending system numbers its addresses differently.

Settings Summary

This table applies to the Lawo VSM example above.

Configure Send Dynamic Labels

Use this configuration to send Source names from hi to the sending system.

Device Configuration

  1. Enable a TSL receiver on the sending system.

  2. Record its IP address and port.

hi Configuration

  1. Open the Node and turn on the Dynamic Labels capability. It is off by default.

  2. Enter the IP address and the port of the TSL receiver.

  3. In Dynamic Label Settings, set Label Protocol and Label Transport to the version and transport that the receiver uses. The defaults are TSL31 and UDP.

  4. Save the Node.

  5. Verify TSL Address Offset in Dynamic Label Settings. It defaults to 1, so outgoing Port 1 becomes address 0.

  6. Open the Dynamic Labels tab, select the entries, and select Activate. By default, hi sends no labels. See Dynamic Label Setup.

Common Checks

Symptom

Check

hi receives no TSL data.

Confirm that the sending system and hi use the same TSL version and transport, and that the sending system targets the hi server address and the incoming port.

Two Nodes behave as one, or one Node receives nothing.

Confirm that each Node with an incoming connection has its own incoming port.

Labels do not arrive at the sending system.

Confirm that the Dynamic Labels capability is on, that the receiver address, port, version, and transport match, and that the entries are active on the Dynamic Labels tab.

Verify the Configuration

Switch a Source on the sending system and confirm that the Ports of the Node show the received names and Tally. When Dynamic Labels are on, change a route in hi and confirm that the label updates on the sending system.
