Device Groups organize Devices within the current Customer Account. They can represent a location, environment, production system, or another stable operational category.
Device Groups do not change Device ownership, transfer Licenses, or move entitlements between Customer Accounts.
Use Device Groups When
-
A Customer Account contains many Devices.
-
Operators need to filter Devices by site or service role.
-
A consistent Device Name is more useful than a Serial Number-only inventory.
-
Teams need a shared, non-sensitive grouping scheme.
Main Procedure
Use Manage Device Groups to:
-
Review existing Device Groups.
-
Create a Device Group with a Name and optional Description.
-
Assign or unassign one Device from its Device Page.
-
Update Device Group assignments for multiple Devices.
-
Edit or delete a Device Group when its current use permits deletion.
-
Filter the Devices Group Assignment table.
All Account Users can review Device Groups. Creating, editing, deleting, or assigning a Device Group requires Authorize Admin: Yes. In this context, Authorize Admin controls Portal access for the current Customer Account only; it does not change permissions or licensing configuration in the Licensed Product.
Planning a Group Structure
Choose one primary organizing principle and use it consistently. Examples include:
-
Location:
London Studio,Berlin OB Unit. -
Environment:
Production,Training,Test. -
System Role:
Control Room,Commentary,Replay.
Avoid credentials, personal data, incident details, and confidential network information. Device Group Name and Description values can be visible to Riedel Customer Success.
Customer Account Boundary
A Device Group belongs to the current Customer Account. If a Device Group or Device is missing, confirm the current Customer Account, clear active filters, and follow Manage Device Groups before requesting support.
For any missing permission, inaccessible Customer Account, or other access issue, contact Riedel Customer Success.
