Generic SNMP Parameter Controllable Device Integration Configuration

Generic SNMP Parameter Controllable Device Integration Configuration

Caution

Compatibility Note: This information is a general guide and may be incomplete, may not match a specific project implementation, and is subject to change as supported products and versions evolve. Confirm the exact implementation and requirements for each project with Riedel and the relevant equipment vendor, then validate the required functions end to end in the target environment before deployment.

Configuration Overview

An SNMP Node shows no parameters until a MIB file is uploaded. Complete the steps in order. Upload the MIB first, then pin the parameters that hi must monitor. Pinned parameters are the ones hi polls.

Caution

Use an MIB file that matches the connected device. Writes use the write community string. Test writes on a safe object only.

Before You Begin

Configure SNMP Parameter Control

Use this configuration to read and write SNMP objects of a device.

Device Configuration

  1. Enable SNMP on the device.

  2. Set dedicated SNMPv2c read and write community strings.

  3. Obtain the MIB files that describe the objects you need.

hi Configuration

  1. Add the SNMP Parameter Controllable Device integration in Inventory.

  2. Enter the address, the Port, and the read and write community strings.

  3. Adjust Polling Interval (ms) and Wait Between Request (ms) when needed. The defaults are 5000 and 50.

  4. Create the Node.

  5. On the General tab, upload the MIB file. The upload accepts .mib files.

  6. In the Parameter Browser, select the objects that hi must monitor and select Pin Selected.

  7. Assign pinned parameters to Ports when operators need them on the Control Panel. See Assign a Parameter Control.

Reads succeed but writes fail.

Confirm that the OID is writable and that the write community has permission.

Verify the Configuration

Pin a known object and confirm that its value updates within the polling interval. Write a safe object and confirm that the device reports the new value.
