QSC Q-SYS Parameter Controllable Device Integration Configuration

QSC Q-SYS Parameter Controllable Device Integration Configuration

Caution

Compatibility Note: This information is a general guide and may be incomplete, may not match a specific project implementation, and is subject to change as supported products and versions evolve. Confirm the exact implementation and requirements for each project with Riedel and the relevant equipment vendor, then validate the required functions end to end in the target environment before deployment.

Configuration Overview

A Q-SYS Core connects to hi as one Parameter Control Node. hi shows only the controls that the running design exposes as Named Controls, so prepare the design first and then create the Node in hi.

Configuration

What hi Sees

Use When

Q-SYS Named Controls

One Parameter for each Named Control of the running design, in the Named Controls folder.

hi must read or change controls of a Q-SYS design.

Caution

hi does not log in to ECP. When the Core requires ECP authentication, hi cannot control it. Do not lower the security settings of the Core to work around this. Contact Riedel Customer Success instead.

Before You Begin

  • Use Node admin and open Inventory > Nodes. See Manage Nodes.

  • Confirm the license and minimum hi version in Required Configuration.

  • Use Q-SYS Designer to edit the design, and confirm the ECP access policy of the Core with the Q-SYS administrator.

  • Confirm the network access in Network Requirements.

Configure Q-SYS Named Controls

Device Configuration

  1. In Q-SYS Designer, select each control that hi must read or write and give it a Named Control name. Use a unique name for each control.

  2. Load the design on the Core and run it. The Core accepts external control connections only while a design is loaded and in Run mode.

  3. In Q-SYS Administrator, open the Users tab and select the Guest user. hi connects without a login, so hi can control the Core only when External Control Protocol is set to Yes for Guest. If the setting is No, the Core requires an ECP login; do not change the setting to follow this procedure.

  4. Test the Named Controls with the Q-SYS ECP test procedure.

hi Configuration

  1. Add the Q-SYS Parameter Controllable Device integration (manufacturer QSC) in Inventory.

  2. Enter the Core address and the Port. hi defaults to 1702. The integration has no other settings.

  3. Create the Node. hi loads all Named Controls when it connects.

  4. Open the Parameters tab and the Named Controls folder. Each Parameter has the name of its Named Control.

  5. Select the controls that hi must monitor, and select Pin Selected.

  6. Assign pinned Parameters to Ports when operators need them on the Control Panel. See Assign a Parameter Control.

Common Checks

Symptom

Check

The Node does not connect.

Confirm that a design runs on the Core and that the ECP Port is reachable from hi.

A control is missing.

Confirm that the control is a Named Control in the running design.

A numeric control shows a range of -1000 to 1000.

hi uses this fixed range for every numeric control. Enter values in the units of the design.

Verify the Configuration

Confirm that the Node reports a connected state and that the Named Controls folder lists the expected controls. Read a known Named Control in hi and compare it with the value in the design. Change a safe control from hi and confirm the change on the Core. Then change the same control on the Core and confirm that the pinned Parameter in hi follows.
