Caution

Compatibility Note: This information is a general guide and may be incomplete, may not match a specific project implementation, and is subject to change as supported products and versions evolve. Confirm the exact implementation and requirements for each project with Riedel and the relevant equipment vendor, then validate the required functions end to end in the target environment before deployment.

Minimum hi Version: v2.5.2

Overview

The Grass Valley® NVision™ NP0016 integration provides Crosspoint control, partition discovery, and status monitoring over TCP.

Network Requirements

  • Allow outbound TCP from hi to each configured NP0016 controller on Port 5194 by default.

  • No callback or inbound connection to hi is used.

  • Keep the plaintext control connection on a trusted management network.

Operator Workflow

  • UI Surface in hi: Routing Matrix and Inventory

  • Router Scope: The level 1 partition reported by the router controller

  • Routing Semantics: hi exposes the Sources, Destinations, and Crosspoints in the level 1 partition that the controller reports.

  • Notes for Operators Familiar with the Vendor's Own Tooling: Use vendor tooling for labels, lock/protect configuration, salvos, and engineering setup.

Parameter

Description

Default

Host / IP Address

IP address of the primary NVision router controller

-

Secondary Host / IP Address

Optional redundant router-controller address

-

Port

TCP port for NP0016 communication

5194

Enable polling for crosspoints

Poll the Crosspoint state instead of waiting for asynchronous change announcements. Enable only for legacy routers, such as the NV8288, that do not send them. In the Options group; set at creation or at runtime.

No

Video disconnect

Source number that hi routes to a Destination when an operator disconnects it
leave empty if not used
set at runtime

-

Set Primary Active

Operations button that makes the primary controller active and restarts initialization
available at runtime when the primary controller is connected

-

Set Secondary Active

Operations button that makes the secondary controller active and restarts initialization
available at runtime when the secondary controller is connected

-

Device-Side Setup

Follow Grass Valley NVision NP0016 Compatible Router Integration Configuration for the device-side and hi-side configuration steps.

Supported Features

Feature

Access

Exposed Operation and Scope

Crosspoint Take

Write-only

Route a Source to a Destination.

Crosspoint Interrogate

Read-only

Query the currently routed Source for Destinations.

Destination Status

Read-only

Read routed Source and lock state.

Partition and System Status

Read-only

Read available partitions/ranges, system health, and configuration information.

Asynchronous Status Registration

Read-only updates

Register for real-time Crosspoint change notifications.

Device Coverage

Potentially Compatible (Not Yet Verified) identifies compatibility candidates that use the same protocol or connection method. Device-specific configuration, firmware, and feature support can affect results.

This integration supports the Grass Valley NVISION range.

Supported Product Range

NP0016 support for these NVISION routers depends on the controller and its software release. The NV5128, NV7256, and NV8256 use an EM0374 controller card, and the NV8140 and NV8144 use an EM0666 or EM0833 controller card. The EM0833 controller card supports asynchronous status registration from software release 3.5. The EM0353, EM0374-00, EM0374-01, and EM0374-02 controller cards and the NVISION Compact Router do not support it.

  • Grass Valley NV5128

  • Grass Valley NV7256

  • Grass Valley NV8140

  • Grass Valley NV8144

  • Grass Valley NV8256

  • Grass Valley NVISION Compact Router

Potentially Compatible (Not Yet Verified)

  • Other routers that implement NP0016 routing, partition, and status exchange.

Known Limitations

  • Validate the partition, status, and routing operations with the installed firmware during commissioning.

  • Controllers do not all support the same NP0016 message set. Only the EM0833 controller card supports Destination status changes, and it supports asynchronous status registration from software release 3.5. If status updates do not arrive, use crosspoint polling.

  • The number of entries per Take or status request is limited, and the limit depends on the router type. Compact Routers have the tightest limits.

  • hi creates Sources and Destinations from the level 1 partition that the controller reports, and it registers for Crosspoint changes on that level only. Other levels do not appear in hi.

  • hi requests the status of at most 64 Destinations in one Destination status request.

  • When hi connects to a controller pair and finds no active controller, it retries after 30 seconds. When the active controller changes, hi restarts initialization on the new active controller.

  • When Enable polling for crosspoints is on, hi does not register for change announcements. It requests the Destination status in turn, and it pauses polling while other data moves on the connection. A change to this setting restarts initialization.

  • A Compact Router that detects no other Compact Router or Remote Panel on its subnet resets its network adaptor after about 120 seconds. An optional UDP Broadcast Data Integrity Message prevents this reset, and hi does not send this message.

What's Not Supported

  • NV9000 external control (NP0017) is a separate vendor protocol and is not part of this integration.

  • Label management through NP0016; use the router's native configuration interface.

  • Engineering-level configuration (level naming, port labels, redundancy setup) - use the vendor's native router-control tool.

  • Firmware updates - use the vendor's native update utility.

  • Hardware diagnostics and SFP-level health - surfaced by the device's own management plane, not this integration.

  • Partition selection. hi has no partition setting.

  • Setting Destination lock, protect, and release states (Set Destination LPR Request). hi reads the lock state only.

  • Coherent Take, Chop, and Machine Control Take requests.

  • Registration for Destination lock, protect, and release change announcements. hi registers for Crosspoint changes only and reads the lock state when it requests the Destination status.
