Generic Pro-Bel SW-P-02 Compatible Router Integration Configuration
Caution
Compatibility Note: This information is a general guide and may be incomplete, may not match a specific project implementation, and is subject to change as supported products and versions evolve. Confirm the exact implementation and requirements for each project with Riedel and the relevant equipment vendor, then validate the required functions end to end in the target environment before deployment.
Configuration Overview
Each Node controls one matrix with one signal type. SW-P-02 messages carry no level, and hi does not read the matrix size from the router. Set the signal type and the counts at creation.
|
Configuration |
What hi Sees |
Use When |
|---|---|---|
|
Video Matrix |
One video matrix with the configured counts. |
hi must control a video matrix over SW-P-02. |
|
Audio Matrix |
One audio matrix with the configured counts. |
hi must control an audio matrix over SW-P-02. |
Caution
Signal Type, Input Count, and Output Count are available only at creation. To change them, delete the Node and create it again.
Before You Begin
-
Use Node admin and open Inventory > Nodes. See Manage Nodes.
-
Confirm the license and minimum hi version in Required Configuration.
-
Use the router configuration software to read the controller address, the SW-P-02 Port, the matrix that the port controls, and its Source and Destination counts.
-
Record the signal type of the matrix that the port controls.
-
Confirm that the SW-P-02 protocol options that the controller requires are set on the controller.
-
Confirm the network access in Network Requirements.
-
SW-P-02 has no authentication. Anyone who can reach the Port can route. Keep the controller on a routing-control network.
Configure Video Matrix
Device Configuration
-
Enable SW-P-02 over IP on the controller. On a Nucleus 2450, the
INI_ENABLEsetting in the[02overIP]section of the Config.ini file on the compact flash card enables it, and it is on by default. On the SC12 and SC13 controllers, including Babel Fish, edit the CHIP.INI file with the SC12 configuration program. The TCP server uses theTCP_IP_PORTsetting, which defaults to2000. Grass Valley iControl Router also uses2000as the default SW-P-02 over IP Port, which can be changed. Port2001is the default UDP Port for Snell multicast connected messages, not the TCP control Port. The hi template default is2001, so enter the TCP Port that the controller uses, normally2000. -
Confirm that the controller accepts another TCP client. These Snell controllers accept up to eight concurrent TCP clients.
-
Confirm that the hi server can reach the controller on the SW-P-02 Port.
hi Configuration
-
Add the Probel SW-P-02 Compatible Router integration (manufacturer Generic) in Inventory.
-
Enter the controller address. The template default Port is
2001. Enter the Port that the controller uses when it differs. -
Keep Signal Type at
Video. -
Enter Input Count and Output Count in the Port Settings group. The template defaults are
16and16. -
Create the Node. hi creates the Sources and Destinations and interrogates each Destination.
-
When an operator disconnect must route a specific Source, open the Node and enter that Source number in Video disconnect in the Options group. This setting is available only after the Node is created.
Configure Audio Matrix
Device Configuration
-
Complete the same device steps as for a video matrix.
hi Configuration
-
Add the Probel SW-P-02 Compatible Router integration in Inventory, and enter the controller address and Port.
-
Set Signal Type to
Audio. -
Enter Input Count and Output Count for the audio matrix, then create the Node.
-
To route video and audio on the same router, create one Node for each matrix, each with its own Signal Type and counts.

Common Checks
|
Symptom |
Check |
|---|---|
|
The Node does not connect. |
Confirm the Port, and confirm that the controller has a free TCP client slot. |
|
Synchronization fails. |
Confirm that the controller port uses SW-P-02 and not another protocol mode, then check the network path from the hi server to the controller. |
|
Sources or Destinations are missing. |
Confirm Input Count and Output Count against the router. They are available only at creation. |
|
A route from hi lands on the wrong Source or Destination. |
hi numbers from |
Verify the Configuration
Wait for hi to finish interrogating the Destinations. Compare several Crosspoints with the router control panel. Route a noncritical Destination from hi and confirm the change on the router. Then change a Crosspoint from a router panel and confirm that hi shows the change.
