Generic VISCA PTZ Compatible Device Integration Configuration
Caution
Compatibility Note: This information is a general guide and may be incomplete, may not match a specific project implementation, and is subject to change as supported products and versions evolve. Confirm the exact implementation and requirements for each project with Riedel and the relevant equipment vendor, then validate the required functions end to end in the target environment before deployment.
Configuration Overview
Each VISCA-over-IP camera is one Node in hi. The Node has camera Ports for the Topology and the camera Parameters that hi reads and writes over UDP.

hi must control a PTZ camera over VISCA over IP. |
Before You Begin
-
Use Node admin and open Inventory > Nodes. See Manage Nodes.
-
Confirm the license and minimum hi version in Required Configuration.
-
Confirm the network access in Network Requirements.
-
VISCA over IP has no authentication. Anyone who can reach the camera Port can control the camera. Keep the camera on a control network.
Configure VISCA PTZ Camera
Device Configuration
-
Connect the camera to the network.
-
Enable VISCA control in the settings menu of the camera. Confirm with the camera vendor how to enable VISCA over IP on your model.
-
Record the camera IP address and the VISCA UDP Port. The VISCA-over-IP default is
52381, and cameras can configure another Port.
hi Configuration
-
Add the VISCA PTZ Protocol integration (manufacturer Sony) in Inventory.
-
Enter the camera address and the Port. hi defaults to
52381. -
Create the Node. hi connects when the camera answers a power query within 500 ms. It then reads power, iris, zoom, focus, and white balance every 5 seconds.
Common Checks
|
Symptom |
Check |
|---|---|
|
The Node shows as disconnected. |
hi marks the Node as disconnected when the camera does not answer the power query. Confirm the address, the Port, and that UDP traffic can pass in both directions. |
|
Only the power Parameter updates. |
The camera is in standby. hi polls only the power state until the camera is on. |
|
A Parameter does not change on the camera. |
Confirm that the camera implements that VISCA command. A camera can omit commands that other VISCA models have. |
|
A Preset above 9 cannot be used. |
hi supports Preset numbers |
Verify the Configuration
Confirm that the power state in hi matches the camera. Recall a Preset or move pan and tilt from hi, and confirm that the camera moves. The position Parameters show the last value that hi sent, not the position reported by the camera. Change a white-balance or iris value, and confirm that the camera applies it.
