Edit Wiring in the Diagram
Overview
Create or remove documented Wiring between compatible Ports and review pending changes before saving.
Prerequisites
-
Use Wiring Diagram access and open Diagram.
-
Select the intended Layer and identify the Source and Destination Ports.
-
Schedule the change when the affected Signal Paths can be changed safely.
Editing a Diagram
Caution
Saved Wiring changes alter the Topology used for Signal Paths and Tally propagation. Review the affected Ports and pending insertions or deletions before selecting Save.
Select the Edit icon (pencil) in the filter bar to enter Edit Mode. The canvas background changes to a striped pattern to indicate that editing is active. In Edit Mode, operators can create new wires, delete existing wires, and reposition device Nodes.
See the illustrated example.
Creating a New Wire
-
Enter Edit Mode.
-
Locate the Source output Port on a device Node.
-
Select and drag from the output Port connector toward the target device.
-
Drop the wire onto the desired input Port on the Destination device Node.
-
The new wire appears on the canvas immediately. It is tracked as a pending insertion until saved.
Only compatible Ports can be connected. Wires run from an output Port to an input Port. You cannot connect two Ports of the same direction, for example output to output.
See the illustrated example.
Deleting a Wire
-
Enter Edit Mode.
-
Select the wire to delete by selecting it. The wire highlights to indicate selection.
-
The sidebar displays details about the selected link, including Source and Destination Ports.
-
Select Delete in the sidebar. The wire is removed from the canvas and tracked as a pending deletion until saved.
See the illustrated example.
Multi-Port Selection
Hold Shift and select multiple Ports to build a multi-Port selection. When compatible Source and Destination Ports are selected, the sidebar offers bulk wiring actions to connect or disconnect all selected Port pairs at once.
Moving Nodes on the Canvas
-
Enter Edit Mode (or remain in Browse Mode - Node dragging is available in both modes when a view is active).
-
Select and drag a device Node header to reposition it on the canvas.
-
All connected wires follow the Node automatically.
-
To persist the new layout, save the current arrangement as a view (see Using Views).
Save and Discard Workflow
To finish, select the Save icon next to the Edit icon. The icon shows an eye when nothing is pending. The Confirm Modifications to Diagram dialog lists all modifications:
-
Insertions are marked with a green add icon and show the Source and Destination Port names.
-
Deletions are marked with a red delete icon and show the previously connected Port names.
The dialog displays the total count of modifications (for example, "3 modifications: 2 added, 1 deleted").
Three actions are available:
|
Action |
Result |
|---|---|
|
Save |
Save all pending insertions and deletions to the Topology. |
|
Discard |
Abandon all pending changes. The diagram reverts to its last saved state. |
|
Cancel |
Return to Edit Mode without saving or discarding. Continue editing. |
See the illustrated example.
Verify the Result
Leave Edit Mode and confirm that the affected Wiring links match the intended changes. Trace the resulting Signal Path at the selected Layer before returning to operation.
Next Steps
Use Manage Nodes to inspect the affected Node configuration.
