Widgets
Overview
Widgets provide controls for configured resources in the Control Panel. Use them to operate devices, adjust parameters, recall Snapshots, or perform supported routing tasks.
The Widget type determines its controls and required resources. Creating a Widget does not establish a device connection or confirm that an operation succeeded.
Widgets, Groups, and Presets
A reusable Widget refers to configured resources, such as a pinned parameter or a Video Server Player. Administrators add these Widgets through the Widget Library.
A Widget Group arranges reusable Widgets for a particular task. A Control Panel Preset identifies the groups available to its users. Operators select an available group in the Widget Area.
For example, a studio Preset can include a playback group containing a configured Video Server Player. The operator opens that group to access the player's controls.
|
Object |
Purpose |
Example |
|---|---|---|
|
Widget |
Provides controls for a configured resource or task. |
A Video Server Player control. |
|
Widget Group |
Arranges Widgets for an operational task. |
A studio playback group. |
Configuring a Widget does not make it available in every Preset. Include its group in the intended Preset and enable the Widget Area.
Parameter Controls and Reusable Parameter Widgets
Parameter controls have two distinct routes into the Control Panel:
|
Route |
What the Operator Selects |
Configuration |
|---|---|---|
|
Assigned Parameter Control |
A Port or Port Container, then its controls in the parameter area. |
Pin a Node parameter and assign it to the relevant Ports or Port Containers. |
|
Reusable Parameter Widget |
A Widget Group containing the configured Parameter Widget. |
Create a Widget from an existing pinned parameter and include it in a group. |
An assigned control follows the selected Port or Port Container. A reusable Parameter Widget refers to its configured parameter.
For example, assign an audio-level parameter to a microphone Port when operators need its control during Port selection. Use a reusable Parameter Widget when the control belongs in a task-specific group.
See Parameter Control for parameter types, writable values, and Parameter Containers.
Operational Implications
-
The installed license scope, account permissions, and active Preset determine which controls are available.
-
A configured Widget requires its referenced resources. Device-dependent controls also depend on the supported integration and Connection State.
-
Selecting a Widget or viewing its value does not establish that a command reached the device. Verify the resulting device or routing state.
-
Review a Widget's Preset, group, and user assignments before deleting it. Other operators may use the same configured Widget.
-
Widget Groups reserved for simplified user assignments are separate from the ordinary groups selected in a Control Panel Preset.
Caution
Some Widgets send commands or change routing immediately. Read the selected Widget's operating procedure before using it on an active system.
